AEA Group Sponsors “Voices Against Violence” fundraising initiative of the Women’s Fund of Birmingham
Birmingham, Alabama – Voices Against Violence is now in its 5th year. To date, the Women’s Fund has invested over $327,000 to reduce the incidence of domestic violence by establishing a domestic docket in Birmingham Municipal Court; funding YMCA Court Advocate for Birmingham Municipal Court; sponsoring local judges at national trainings on domestic violence issues; leveraging a Law Enforcement Grant for shared information system prototype, enabling judges to see perpetrators’ prior arrests; funding the Policy Analyst’s position for the Coordinated Community Response in partnership with Verizon Foundation; providing funds to Alabama Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ACADV) to train court personnel and law enforcement; purchasing digital cameras for Birmingham police to use in domestic violence crime scenes; using VAV funds through ACADV to attract federal money for Operation Hit Back; and offering the Hispanic Interest Coalition of Central Alabama a challenge grant to support part-time bilingual court advocates working with Latina victims of domestic violence.
